Our modern world, the civilisation that human kind is so proud of, is collapsing. There is no other way around saying this.
Our governments, the institutions that we believed in ( churches, educational systems, child care, banking, health care, media etc) are shaking underneath the heavy old outdated models and the pressure of the new world coming through.
We watch how none of those institutions are really working in favour of the people, but are instead trapped in swamps of greed, fear and corruption.
Essential values are being eroded and virtues are mocked. The family as core unit of society and community is replaced by hyper individualism and the law of the jungle.
People are sick, minds are scattered and „zombified“ by screens and mass media. I see on daily basis humans who struggle to find meaning and purpose in their lives. The world is obsessed with celebrities, absurd beauty standards and exotic vacations more than the immoral and inhumane actions of one nation against another. We see the world‘s biggest toddler and felon campaigning for a president. Psychopaths, pedophiles, religious extremists and racists are our law makers. Turmoil, breakdown and acute crises prevail.
And we are entering an ecocide- the climate collapse that we can no longer ignore.
It doesn’t look pretty, does it?
No, It’s messy.
Soo ...what is spiritual midwifing and how is it relevant?
In the midst of this madness ( let’s call things by their names) there is rising of consciousness happening. More and more people are waking up. More and more people begin to search and seek for the meaning of their lives, beyond what one's eyes can see, questioning the structures of power, capitalism and ultimatelly oppression.
The spiritual midwives ares souls who have chosen to alchemize the darkness in themselves first and feel the pain of the world in their hearts. Shadow workers, doulas, healers, artists, shamans, guides… not as profession, but as vocation. These are the people, who are present to another in a time of vulnerability and distress, working deeply and intimately with the birth of the soul.
A spiritual midwife, is everyone choosing Love over hate,
It is every being choosing not to pass wounding and trauma on the future generations.
Is is every heart that breaks open for the beauty of this world just a bit more…over and over again.
When we stay present with what is, not avoiding our feelings, we open the portals of alchemy inside us.
In my own journey I have been massively disconnected from my body and the state of intimacy within myself. Avoiding the pain and blocking my feelings, not being able to receive the love I was craving was my unconscious way of being in this world.
And what is the Path of the Rose and what is its connection to the world’s mess and birthing of the new earth?
So few words on the new earth. What is meant by that?
It's life on our planet with a new awareness-based consciousness.
As Eckhat Tolle says:
"There is growing awareness of the intrinsic oneness of everything that exists, so that more and more we are seeing an awareness of and deep concern for our fellow humans, the countless animals that are our traveling companions, and the planet itself. Such awareness implies that there is indeed a lessening of the ego in a growing number of people, and in some parts of the planet more than in others. This diminishment of the ego gives rise to empathy and compassion beyond tribal, racial, national, or religious affiliations. It is those qualities that make us truly human."
The new earth is the birthing of the higher consciousness operating through us, humans.
And what about the Rose?
The rose has been a powerful symbol for wisdom, love, grace, transformation for many cultures and traditions worldwide.
In the Christian tradition, the rose is associated with the Virgin Mary and Mary Magdalene, in the gnostic and alchemical tradition, with Sophia, Divine Wisdom and the Holy Spirit. It has always been connected to the feminine qualities of gentleness, love, passion, compassion, comfort, softness, beauty...
In Islam the rose symbolizes the Prophet Muhammad and is known as the flower of heaven. The famous Sufi poet Rumi (1207–73) wrote many beautiful verses about the rose such as these:
“That which God said to the rose
and caused it to laugh in full-blown beauty,
God said to my heart
and made it a hundred times
more beautiful.”
The fragrance of a rose represents the sacredness of people’s souls. The Sufi teacher Hazrat Inayat Khan (1882-1927), wrote this: “Just as the rose consists of many petals held together, so the person who attains to the unfoldment of the soul begins to show many different qualities. These emit fragrance in the form of a spiritual personality. The rose has a beautiful structure, and the personality which shows the unfoldment of the soul also has a fine structure, in the manner of relating to others, in speech, in action. The atmosphere of a spiritual being pervades the air like the perfume of a rose.”
As an initiatory path, the Path of the Rose symbolises the hidden feminine wisdom tradition and the Way of the Heart- when the heart stays present and open with the joys and the pain, the heartache and the mess of the world, allowing it to be purified again and again until there is nothing left but Love and Presence.
It doesn't really matter how we call it - Dao, Way of the Heart, Path of the Rose etc. What is important is to to start living and embodying the teachings.
When a heart is fully open the old paradigms of the ego-based awareness can no longer take hold. When the heart is soft and perceives the world as one whole, there are no longer "others". Then the mind can step aside as desicion making authority and let the heart lead the way.
Sovereign beings build healthier realtionships, and they grow in healthy families, communities and tribes, nations and ultimately - a heart- lead humanity.
Just like a woman in labor, sweating, bleeding, cursing... who has surrendered her body and spirit to the tearing experience of making way for a new life to come through her.
And making it more practical and tangiable:
A lot of what I'm describing above is happening in our physical bodies and nervous system. Our personal stories, the stories of our ancestors are inscribed in our cells. So physical engagement with the body is really important. (yoga is a great tool to cultivate more awareness and presence in the body, it calms the mind too)
BSMT ( Breath, Sound Movement, Touch) is a technique I learned from one of my teachers in the Orgasmic Oracle mysteries, Briana Lynn. How to digest, move energy, and integrate the human experience, moving what wants to move through us in the present moment. A link below to learn this technique from the source:
Womb work (for women): Sometimes few deep breaths and placing our hands for few minutes on top of our bellies and wombs can support us move so much. Speaking as a woman, we women store so much emotions- our own and others'- in our womb space. So becoming aware and present with this specific part of our bodies is a huge step forward exploring her mysteries. So feel free to lay down on your back or sit in comfortable position and place your hands on your belly. Begin to rhytmically inhale and exhale. See in your mind's eye a thick root growing from your womb down towards the earth and digging deeper and deeper into the soil. And rest there for few minute- from 5 to 10 to 15... no limits. This exercise is very grounding and calming.
The Sacred Pause- a loved technique I learned from the Gene Keys and the Art of Contemplation. It is the simplest method and yet it requires some self-discipline. To make pauses regularly throughout our day. having your eyes closed or open, bring your awareness in the present moment, notice how you feel, what are the present emotions and physical sensations, without wanting to change them. Just breathe are be aware that something is moving through you. You can take a pause inbetween sending emails, or just before you leave the house, or waiting at the queue in the supermarket. Important is that you draw your attention inwards, creating more time for yourself. (it is truly magical how making more pauses during a busy day creates more spaciousness in our perseption. We literally create more time. If it helps set up few alarms throughout your day and just stop and do a 1-2 min pause.
Praying the Rosary- another beautiful practice is praying the rosary. It doesn't really matter if you're Christian or not- the rosary as a spiritual devotion predates Christianity. As a folk tradition, the rosary was a way of hiding the Goddess in plain sight. and has its roots in moon cycles, seed gathering, and the offering of rose garlands to the Great Mother
Prayer is a heart- opening practice in building a conscious connection between us and Spirit, between us and the Divine Feminine. (also: It is an ancient solution to stress.)
Birthing the new world is nothing less than a labor of love and a process of surrendering the logical mind to the Wisdom of the heart. And it's a coming back to the embrace of the Great Mother, the Earth herself.
If you want to learn to pray the rosary- my dear friend Melanie O'Driscoll is offering some guidance in the link below:
And here's a link to part I and II of Mel and I's conversation and introduction to Mary Magdalene and her profound teachings.
With Love and Reverence
